WSOP Changes Payouts

February 4, 2015 Jordan Greene Poker World

The recently announced move is a stark departure from the original plan, which was intended to strike up media interest with the large top prize. The new payout structure benefits the players and the poker community by ensuring that more players leave the WSOP with their poker bankroll intact. A top-heavy structure concentrates the money in a way that can potentially take money out of the poker community and economy.

Abandoning the $10,000,000 guaranteed first place prize also increases the likelihood that all final tablists will walk away with at least $1,000,000.
